Suffolk, Va in home newborn photography

Here in the Peanut City, I think a lot of folks appreciate the slower pace of life. Newborn photography certainly isn't a new thing, but it seems natural to want to have these beautiful little moments documented in your home. And really, truthfully speaking, these little moments aren't so little after all...these are the ones that are going to be the ones we dream about years from now...blissfully reminiscing on the sleepless nights, the struggles of the newborn phase, how quickly they grew and changed...these moments that are somehow equally overwhelming and magical at the same time.

I walked into these first-time parent's home and was immediately enveloped in a warm and cozy feeling. There was artwork everywhere (most of it done by my client! She's so talented!) and I admired the work of other photographers. I loved how their walls sparked joy and emotion at every turn. There were baby blankets and tiny little socks strewn about on the couches, with a nursing pillow and huge water bottle- tell-tale signs of a new nursing mom. Believe me when I say, I appreciate a scene like this more than you know. The realness, the rawness, the honesty of it all. This was pure joy for me to photograph!

Home is where the love is...

Ever notice how a newborn baby cuddles up and fits perfectly on their parent's chest? I felt like I could stay under the weight of my babies forever. It was the most comforting thing in the world to me.

I know that the newborn days can be hard, I know everything isn't all rainbows and butterflies. It can be so hard running on so little sleep and trying to figure out everything. But I also know that when I saw myself just like this in pictures, it filled me with so much peace and allowed me to really rest in my new role. There's no better place to have newborn pictures than right in the comfort of your very own home. And the best part is that these moments, the real ones, aren't lost to posed perfection.

A favorite memory from this session is when their sweet newborn baby girl spit up all over the front of Dad's shirt. That's real life, my friend. And it's messy sometimes!

I loved hearing about their wedding, how they met and fell in love. All of these moments they told me about that led up to THIS moment...to THIS new life.

Their story continues to a new chapter...

It's important to me to capture detail shots in a session because we're literally writing a new chapter in their family's story. I want photos that go beyond aesthetics to create an honest portrayal of what life looks like infused with love and connection.

Everyone deserves to be seen and heard and celebrated in a way that reflects their unique story- an anti-generic approach if you will.

I appreciate this family for trusting me with their family's memories, it's not something that I ever take lightly.

And hey, those first few weeks may be an absolute blur, but at least you'll have awesome photos to prove you survived them! Ha!
