Jacob | In-home Newborn Session | Chesapeake, Virginia

I read a quote once that said, "Babies are a link between angels and man." I couldn't help but think of that quote the second I saw this baby's sweet face. You see, I've known his parents for a long time. And I know that this little baby has an Auntie in Heaven looking down on him. He made his Facebook debut wearing a custom made onesie that said, "Handpicked for Earth by my Aunt Taschy in Heaven." If that doesn't make your heart swell and your eyes misty, I don' t know what will.

I look forward to newborn sessions like I do Christmas morning. There is something so magical about that newborn period. So fresh, so new, so squishy... 8lbs 6oz of squishiness to be exact. I even got to hold and cuddle him for a second! I mean, honestly, it doesn't get much better than that. He was wide awake the whole entire time I was there, so alert and active. I don't mind though, his eyes are absolutely dreamy and he already has such a sweet disposition. One thing I absolutely adored in little Jacob's session was his sweet, newborn flakey skin.

If you ask me, one of the things I specifically look for in a newborn session and always take detail shots of is their little hands and feet, particularly if they are nice and flakey- and no- I never, ever edit them out. This is such an iconic feature of newborn skin. The skin peeling occurs because as the baby approaches full term in the womb, the vernix (the sticky white stuff on their skin, or as I like to call it, birthday frosting!) starts to disappear. This means the baby's skin is more exposed to the amniotic fluid during those last few days in the womb, which results in it peeling some after birth. It's so real and such an honest look at the newborn stage- I love it!
Although Jacob was awake during 98% of his session (and of course fell fast asleep as soon as I left- I got a picture message before I even made it out of the neighborhood!), he spent so much time being cuddled, kissed, fed, and wrapped up on his mama's chest listening to her beating heart. He's a lucky little baby to be so loved and we are all so grateful for him !

This family purchased the Belly + Baby Collection which means that I was able to capture their maternity and newborn memories. The Collection comes with a beautiful, elegant 8x10 professionally matted print (finished size 11x14) that is ready to display.
