where stories are told
I'm so excited ya'll. I know I probably say that about every season, but I really love Fall. There's something so wonderful about the end of a long and hot summer and looking forward to the cool days of Autumn and the even cooler nights. It's always been a fantastic time for our family- when we lived in Tennessee at the foothills of the Smokey Mountains we loved hiking every weekend. Here in Chesapeake, Va we love spending time outside in our backyard by the river Elizabeth River. We love spending time outside and enjoying the vibrant colors, the pleasant temps, and yummy fall food. And yes, fall food actually means pumpkin everything. Everything. Pumpkin pie, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin bread, pumpkin cake, pumpkin soup, pumpkin biscuits, pumpkin butter, pumpkin candles and soap, pumpkin lotion, and pumpkin. spice. latte. And the icing on the cake...SEC football. Can I get an AMEN ya'll? GO DAWGS! Also, it's time for Hocus Pocus and s'mores... because I'm still a kid at heart.
Anyways, for photographers, that usually means the start of our busy season. So, I wanted to talk to you about a few things. Specifically, inspiration to get you thinking about your fall themed storytelling session and to tell you about a great new way to save with Jess Nicole Photography.
When you think about fall, what do you think about? I told you some of the things that I think about. We have a pumpkin patch tradition with our family- and you know what? Our tradition is that we don't actually carve the pumpkins. I have an emotional attachment to them I guess and we just don't ever end up carving them! I'm serious ya'll! We also tend to do a lot of baking, spending time outside playing, doing football things, etc. What better way to document this season in your life than with a fall themed session, telling your family's unique story? Is it an adventurous story? Like the way we used to go hiking? Is it a quiet (and yummy) story of baking? Or being cozy with your spouse indoors? Maybe you don't have children yet and you want to document this season in your life before that chapter begins. I would have loved to have had pictures of just me and my Jer. It was a sweet time together. Are you expecting this fall? Do you have a pumpkin patch tradition? Will you be documenting your baby's milestone this fall (sitting, walking, pulling up, etc)? Do you go out for brunch on the weekends and sit outside sipping that pumpkin spice latte? Anything you do is your story. It's not about being fancy. It's not about this magazine quality perfect setting or life. Your story is where you are right now, this very second. It's not about who you will be tomorrow or when you lose those 10 lbs. You are perfect, you are enough right this very second and your story deserves to be told.
Sometimes clients present me with the concern that they want traditional portraits to hang on the wall. Let me say 2 things to this concern. First and foremost, I think you should fill your walls and your home with things that make you happy. Whatever that may be, even if it's a candid portrait of your daily life or your child or your drinking coffee. If it is beautiful and meaningful to you, hang it up. Put it somewhere where you will see it every day- and when you see it, remember that moment and that memory. Remember how it felt and let it bring your happiness. Secondly, don't worry, if you choose, we will spend a few minutes getting a more "traditional" pose in the last 10-15 minutes that I am with you.
So be thinking about Christmas presents, Christmas cards, and just investing yourself in recording your memories. Over the next few weeks, I'll be sharing more ideas, display ideas, and inspiration for you.
On to the next topic- ways to save with Jess Nicole Photography. Most clients approach me with an idea they had for a session and also with an idea in mind of what they would like in terms of products. I have developed my product collections to encompass the most requested products. So, if you have that in mind, you can now pre-pay your session fee and product collection. Doing this will save you time and money. How? It will save you time because you know what you want and what you are getting. All you will have to do it fill in the blanks with which images. It will save you money because I will offer a $100 discount on the total price. Easy way to save $100, right? And don't worry, you can always upgrade the collection and purchase additional products should you wish. And with the purchase of any collection, you will receive a 10% discount on a la carte items. Awesome, right?! Yeah, I think so too.
